My grandmother was born in the Dutch East Indies; her mother was from Java and her father was Indo-European, which means he was half Dutch and half Indonesian. They brought their Indo-European cuisine with them when they migrated to Europe in the fifties.

This cake is probably one of the most famous treats from the Indo-European cuisine, especially in the Netherlands. We call it "spekkoek". It's a layered cake, and my grandmother has been baking it for at least as long as I can remember.

I did one myself yesterday for the first time. I think it turned out rather well, the layers aren't perfect but they're all right. And it tastes amazing.

It's a really sticky cake; there's (among other things) a pound of butter in it and ten eggs. What gives it its amazing taste are the spices; cinnamon, cardamon, aniseed powder, ground nut meg and ground cloves. The smell was amazing. :D

I've also been baking a lot. :D So, you know, that's what happens.

And you know what?! I shot this in manual. :XD:

I have no idea what it's called in any other language than Dutch, so I don't know. :XD: But yeah, you might have, somewhere in Asia.

Tuurlijk mag je het recept. :D

Ingrediënten
1 pond witte basterdsuiker
10 eieren (gesplitst)
250 gr bloem
1 kuipje Bona (500 gr)
2 el koffiemelk
5 tl anijspoeder
10 tl kaneelpoeder
5 tl kruidnagelpoeder
3 tl noodmuskaat
2,5 tl kardamon

1. Eiwit stijf kloppen.
2. Suiker en boter kloppen.
3. Koffiemelk bij het suiker-botermengsel.
4. Eierdooiers beetje bij beetje door dit mengsel mengen.
5. Bloem zeven.
6. Bloem door het beslag scheppen.
7. Eiwit erdoorheen scheppen (!). (Dat is wel een rotklusje...)
8. Beslag verdelen per drie lepels (maat: ergens tussen een eetlepel en een opscheplepel in ) ; drie lepels meer bruin dan wit.
9. Kruidenmengsel door het "bruine" beslag mengen.
10. Gril voorverwarmen tot 150C.
11. Bakblik (24 cm) met bakpapier bedekken.
12. 3 lepels bruin beslag over de bodem uitsmeren (alle hoeken en randen bedekken!).
13. Onder de gril totdat het goed bruin is.
14. 3 lepels wit beslag uitsmeren en onder de gril tot bruin.

etc.

15. Eindigen met een laagje bruin beslag.
16. Spekkoek bedekken met aluminiumfolie.
17. Ongeveer 15 min. in de oven tot helemaal gaar (schone prikker) (150C)

Succes! Laat me even weten of het gelukt is, dat vind ik wel leuk. Het is wel veel werk, hoor. :thanks:
